Big Shine Energy proudly announces the successful completion of a state-of-the-art rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system at the Owen Brown Community Center in Columbia, Maryland. Making this our second PV solar installation for Columbia Association. These projects reflect our commitment to delivering sustainable and efficient energy solutions that empower communities.
About Owen Brown Community Center
The Owen Brown Community Center is a central hub in Columbia, Maryland. Located in one of the city’s ten planned villages, Owen Brown is a thriving neighborhood. Since its establishment in 1972, it has grown to over 3,300 residences, with a population of more than 10,000 people.
Managed by the Owen Brown Community Association, the center offers valuable services. These include meeting spaces, community programs, and events that bring residents together. As part of Columbia Association, the center also prioritizes environmental responsibility.
Since 2015, Columbia Association has offset 100% of its electricity use with renewable energy. Around 25% of its power comes from a 2-megawatt solar farm in West Friendship, Maryland. The rest is offset by wind-generated Renewable Energy Certificates. Additionally, CA is a proud member of the EPA’s Green Power Partnership. This program recognizes organizations that advance green power development.
By adding the rooftop solar system, the Owen Brown Community Center is reducing its carbon footprint even further. It also sets an example for other organizations interested in renewable energy adoption.
Project Highlights: Rooftop Solar Installation
System Design and Capacity
The rooftop PV system has a capacity of 27.50 kW-AC. It is specifically designed to meet the energy needs of the community center. To maximize performance, the system incorporates advanced solar technology.
The installation includes:
- 50 bifacial solar modules (550W each) by Big Shine Worldwide. These panels feature dual-glass construction. They capture sunlight on both sides, even in low-light conditions. This design boosts energy output while ensuring durability.
- Two 10kW inverters. These devices efficiently convert DC electricity from the panels into usable AC power. Known for their smart energy management features, the inverters also ensure seamless grid integration.
Sustainability Impact
This solar project is now part of Columbia Association’s growing portfolio. CA owns and operates 11 other solar installations. By adding this new system, they are expanding their renewable energy footprint and strengthening their commitment to sustainability.
Building a Greener Future
Big Shine Energy is proud to support Columbia Association’s green initiatives. From the Owen Brown Community Center to the Supreme Sports Club, we are helping CA embrace renewable energy. As their trusted partner, we look forward to maintaining their existing solar systems and contributing to future projects. Together, we are paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future.
